The Presidential Excellence Awards honor individuals and teams who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to Montclair's mission, excellence in their work and service to our community. These awards are intended to highlight achievements from all members of our Red Hawk community, including faculty and staff, full-time and part-time, long standing and newly arrived. Together, we will continue our mission to make Montclair an inclusive and accessible University that creates transformative educational opportunities for students across the globe. - Advancing the Common Good at Montclair
Montclair is launching two initiatives to fulfill our mission to advance the common good:
- The University Community Engagement Council will consist of faculty and staff that engage in community-based work to ensure community-engaged activities are coordinated, impactful, and aligned with the institution’s values and mission. For more information contact Bryan Murdock, murdockb@montclair.edu. To be considered for the council, fill out the UCEC application by Friday, January 9.
- The Civic Participation and Public Purpose Council includes faculty and staff that promote civic participation, civic education, and political involvement. This Council is charged with: enhancing our existing partnerships with civic organizations; promoting and coordinating civic participation; and delivering what was promised in the Carnegie Leadership for Public Purpose elective classification. - University Authors Recognition Program 2026
The University Authors Recognition Program to acknowledge and celebrate the scholarly and creative achievements of Montclair’s faculty and staff. You are invited to submit your publications to be recognized in the Montclair State University Authors Program. All employees of Montclair State University are welcome, including faculty, staff, adjuncts and Emeriti faculty. The deadline to submit your work is January 31, 2026. - Advocacy and Outreach Educational Workshops
Advocacy and Outreach Programs have graduate coordinators and student assistants who are formally trained to speak on social justice topics/issues related. Typical sessions can include personal stories and experiences, information on campus resources for marginalized populations and a question-and-answer period. Our staff are perfect speakers for residence halls, academic classrooms, leadership training, sports teams, religious organizations, Greek organizations, student groups and other campus communities. If you need assistance with selecting a workshop for your class, department or student organization, email advocacy@montclair.edu to discuss a program for your class, department or organization.

- Adult Mental Health First Aid Training

- Community Fitness Lab
Located in University Hall 4007 (Montclair Campus), our lab provides personalized fitness assessments to support health, performance, and overall well-being. Tests include body composition, cardiovascular fitness, strength, and more. An Exercise Physiologist will help you interpret your results, offering metrics to establish a baseline and track progress - whether you’re an athlete or simply looking to stay healthy. - The Spring 2026 Teaching Symposium: Designing Engagement and Excellence
The Annual Spring Teaching Symposium is a virtual faculty development event that will look ahead toward the start of a promising new semester, while reflecting on lessons learned from the fall. It includes external speakers, faculty presentations, instructional technology workshops, and much more. This year’s event will kick off with opening remarks by Dr. Jessica Murphy, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Success and Academic Innovation, followed by our keynote speaker Dr. Bonnie Stewart’s talk. - Walk-In Office Hours
Faculty are welcome to stop by University Hall, Rm. 5009, each Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with no appointment needed. During this time, our instructional designers and technologists will be available to assist with questions about Canvas, course design, and a variety of instructional technology tools. In addition to these in-person hours, ITDS continues to provide year-round online support, which can be accessed by booking an appointment.

- Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Faculty Workshop: Getting Started with Research Design from Teaching Questions to SoTL Projects
Faculty from Bloomfield and Montclair campuses are invited to learn how to design a SoTL project that documents and investigates what’s working and what you’re still exploring. Workshop participants will become both more reflective and data-informed instructors by strengthening connections between their classroom praxis and research agendas. This event is co-sponsored by CTAI (Center for Teaching and Academic Innovation) and the Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE). Registration deadline: Friday, December 19. - Facilities Services Survey
The University has launched a comprehensive Facilities Survey to better understand how our campus community experiences the services provided by our Facilities Maintenance and Facilities Services teams. The goal of this survey is to help evaluate and improve our performance in key areas such as responsiveness, staff knowledge, transparency, communication, quality, courtesy, and willingness to assist. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete and your responses are anonymous.
